Back Alley Productions will present William Shakespeare’s comedy “Midsummer Night’s Dream” as part of our fifth annual Shakespeare Summer Series, a free public program that performs in outdoor venues across the area. The show runs approximately two hours and 30 minutes.

Audience members are advised to bring water, snacks, chairs, a blanket for grass venues, bug spray, and umbrellas in case of rain. The show will be performed unless weather conditions are dangerous.

Midsummer night’s dream is great for families to experience the arts together and provide an all-around fun event. The show will include a talkback at the end of each venue where the cast will stay after to answer questions and discuss the show.

Synopsis:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. Lysander loves Hermia. Hermia loves Lysander. Demetrius loves Hermia. Helena loves Demetrius. But no one loves Helena… poor Helena. These foolish lovers lives get even more outrageous when lost in the woods on a midsummer’s eve, the love-sick quartet finds themselves in the middle of a fairy’s feud between Oberon the Fairy King and his Fairy Queen Titania. Armed with a potent love potion, Robin Goodfellow often referred to as “Puck” causes more chaos than one forest can handle. With magic and mayhem, a donkey’s head, and a troupe of rude mechanicals, you’ll be laughing in agreement with the fairies: “what fools these mortals be!” no matter who you are, you have heard of Midsummer Night’s Dream. The audience will find that, even if they’re not Shakespeare buffs, that the story is accessible, magical and a lot of fun for everyone.

The production will be staged in traditional Elizabethan.

Though the show is free, Back Alley is accepting donations to help support the program. These donations go towards continuing the effort to offer quality Shakespeare free to the public each summer. Donations can be made online at www.BAPshows.com or during the show.
