Fourth Annual Huffabaloo
The May Day Festival will be held at the Huff House property of the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society May 6, 2018 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.
The intent of the Huffabaloo is to benefit the renovation and restoration of the historical property and to keep our history within the minds and hearts of area citizens. The festival serves as a reminder of our heritage and will be fun experience with old-fashioned games for children of all ages.
The tour of the house will recreate the historical day of General Cleburne’s proposal to General Joseph E. Johnston of the Confederacy to arm slaves in exchange for their freedom at the conclusion of the Civil War. Included will be the history of the Huff family (1892-1972) and their significant influence on the town.
The May Pole Dance will be presented on the front lawn with lively music, and groups of Scouts will present stories of other important historical figures from the greater Dalton area. Performances will include local talent and choral recitals from Morris Innovative School and Dalton Middle School. Additional performances will include Brassworks from Chattanooga.
While children hunt for coins and metal treasures in the sand there will also be a sampling of historical music that will entertain guests room from the front porch. The festival will feature a climbing wall, a dunking booth, and other era specific games. With local restaurants (fill in local venders) providing food and treats for sale and an auction of fine merchandise from Dalton stores, the experience will create a magical afternoon.
