A group of local historians are publishing a hard-bound book on the Civil War and Dalton. The book titled, Dalton in the Civil War: A 150th Anniversary Retrospective, is a compilation of research and articles they worked on during the Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration.
To celebrate the completion of the book, historians, volunteers, and support staff will join the Dalton CVB in a pre-publication roll out of the book on Tuesday December 4, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Dalton Freight Depot. The book is currently in production and will be available for purchase in January.
The Sesquicentennial of the Civil War took place from 2011-2015 and the Dalton CVB joined the State of Georgia to commemorate the period for visitors and locals.
During the four-year recognition, local historians documented historical events that took place in Dalton during the Civil War. The articles were published in the Daily Citizen and complemented a series of educational events and activities that were developed for visitors and residents. Following the end of the Sesquicentennial in 2015 local historians compiled the 150 articles as the final commemoration of the Sesquicentennial in Dalton.
The roll out on December 4, 2018 will formally announce the launching of the book as well as give members of the public an opportunity to preorder the book. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome to attend. The Dalton Freight depot is located at 305 S. Depot St. Dalton, GA 30720.
