AUDITIONS FOR STEEL MAGNOLIAS
Auditions for the play Steel Magnolias will be held Saturday, June 23 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday June 24 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church. The church is located at 121 North Varnell Road, Tunnel Hill Georgia. The performance dates are August 17, 18 and 19 at Northwest High School.
There are roles for 6 women with age ranges 18 – 65. Steel Magnolias is a comedy drama set in Truvy’s beauty shop where 6 women gather for gossip, friendship and support. These women are true Steel Magnolias; Southern Belles who are flowery on the outside but tough as steel on the inside. The play is alternately hilarious and touching as it moves from the excitement of Shelby’s wedding to sadness. The dialogue is sharp and funny with all 6 roles, interesting and challenging.
The play is being presented to raise funds for the Carol Braden Houston Memorial Scholarship established in 2016. The scholarship is awarded at the end of each school year to a graduating teen parent who intends to further his or her education education. Carol was the founding director of the Infant Preschool Council whose mission was to help pregnant and parenting teens learn to care for themselves as well as their children. Carol emphasized and encouraged education as a means to accomplish this. The play will be directed by Jim Lansing and Ron Houston.
