See where the first major engagement of the Atlanta Campaign was waged between combined Union forces under Major General William T. Sherman and the Confederate army of Tennessee led by General Joseph E. Johnson, May 12-15, 1864, ending inconclusively with the Confederates retreating. A 500 acre portion of the battlefield is slated to become a historic site.
