Dalton equals live music. That’s what’s up. We’ve been highlighting some local musicians on our blog to introduce you to the Dalton Music scene that typically kicks up on Wednesday night and lasts through the weekend. With numerous live music venues around town, you are sure to find something that suits your fancy. Our next featured Musician is Tanner Cline.

If you’re not familiar with Tanner, he is a young, up and coming musician from Dalton, and part of the Dalton Music scene. Tanner has played at several venues around town such as the Blues Street Café, Cherokee Brewing and Pizza Company and others. We asked Tanner to tell us about his love for music and his music career in his own words.

“I ask myself everyday what and where I would be today without music. It has been my closest and most reliable companion for as long as I can remember. My mother tells me that I first played a guitar not long after I started walking. However, I didn’t really start playing and learning until about the age of 8 at the instruction of my dad who taught me a few chords and gospel songs. I’ve been playing the guitar on my own ever since.
My first performances consisted of playing at family get-togethers and occasionally at my church’s youth group meetings. My first real live performance in front of more than just my family was when I entered the Dalton Showcase of the Stars and won Judge’s Choice Award. My first real, full-set performance was a solo show at the Blues Street Cafe at the Butcher’s Market in Varnell, Georgia. Since then, I’ve connected with many other local restaurant venues doing solo shows with my guitar, and a little harmonica and piano. Recently, my longtime friend and very musically talented drummer Carter Hayes and I have started doing some two-piece shows around town.
I’ll soon be attending Middle Tennessee State University along with Carter where he and I will be further pursuing our passion in music and hopefully get a degree in Audio Production and hopefully make some connections and meet other people with the same passion that we have. My story is far from over, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.” – Tanner Cline
